AIA Promotion of our RE Today Teaching Resources
Our partners, ‘The Animal Interfaith Alliance’ (AIA) have been doing some amazing work promoting our RE Today resources on Ethical Veganism.
- VinE is a full member of the Animal Interfaith Alliance (AIA) and partners with them on educational initiatives which encourage children and young people’s empathy and compassion for animals. AIA is also a member of the World Federation for Animals (WFA) and AIA’s founder, Barbara Gardner shared our RE today teaching materials with them and they now feature on the WFA’s ‘Inspiration Board’.
- Barbara Gardner also promoted the RE Today materials at a talk she gave recently at a seminar held by fellow WFA member, the Somali Animal Welfare Society.
The Somali Animal Welfare Society (SAWS) held a seminar on “The Benefits of Improving Animal Welfare from the Perspective of Animal Production”. The event was held in Mogadishu, Somalia on 5th October 2023 for World Animal Day (WAD).
Barbara gave a fabulous zoom presentation on “An Interfaith View on Extending the Golden Rule to Include All Sentient Beings”. The presentation highlighted that over 80% of the world’s population claim to belong to a faith, and demonstrated how all faiths advocate for the compassionate treatment of animals. We should therefore extend the Golden Rule (to treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves) to them. Barbara described how humans abuse billions of animals each year in entertainment, laboratories and in farming (particularly intensive farming) and asked why there was such a huge discrepancy between what the faiths teach about animals and how the followers of those faiths treat them today. Barbara finished her talk with a presentation of our RE Today resources RE teaching resources and recommended further reading on animals in religion.
